We recognize that the related topics of climate change and reduced emissions are usually presented in a way that try to motivate through fear.
Power Art Corvallis has a different approach.
We see an opportunity to collaborate, to bring people together, and to strengthen communities while at the same time shedding our dependence on fossil fuels and beautifying the area with art that generates renewable energy!
Power Art Corvallis is committed to helping improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprints in Corvallis and surrounding communities. Our mission is to provide a collaborative forum that is organized to design, create, and install outdoor public art that produces a significant power source for buildings or all sizes as well as neighborhoods. If this sounds exciting to you, we welcome you to become part of our team!
We want you to be a part of this journey toward shedding our dependence on fossil fuels in an exciting, fun, and supportive way! Whether you are a retired person, a student, a full time parent, a professor, an engineer, an investor, an artist, an architect, or any other role or identity, you are an important member of our team! When you join, you will be included in no more than 1 email per month that will contain event dates, information, and calls to action.
From early grade school, Blossom Van Kinkle has always had a special connection to the planet. Over the years, that connection has grown from the simple joy of playing and exploring everything outside, to indoor and outdoor gardening, to her passion for protecting all of the wonderful natural things here. In 2019, Blossom quit her job of 16 years to attend law school with a focus on environmental and natural resources law. Now, through Power Art Corvallis, she hopes to make tangible positive changes to the way communities think about climate change issues while embarking on the creation of art that generates renewable energy!
Please contact us below if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Each installation is designed with the specific space in mind. Typically, the larger the space, the more electricity can be produced.
The smaller the size, the shorter timeframe can be expected. Funding and permitting are typically the primary limiting factors.
Corvallis already values the culture, beauty, and conversations surrounding various art forms. Adding the benefit of reducing dependance on the power grid and its impacts on the environment is a financial benefit in the long run and a social and environmental benefit right away.
The only similar installation that we know about is the Arco del Tiempo, in Texas. It was installed in 2024 and is much larger than what Power Art Corvallis has in mind initially. The goal here is to prove the concept to pave the way to fully updated infrastructure, laws, and ordinances to allow these beautiful--energy producing--artworks to be easily installed locally at first, then statewide, then countrywide, then worldwide.
Everyone has a unique skill set and projects like this one need the help of all kinds of people. The easiest way to help is to spread the word--share this website, encourage those interested to meet with us by submitting a contact form below. We also need financial support (donations are being accepted below), the support of engineers and artists who will collaborate with others to produce a final work of art that produces clean energy. We also need people who have governmental connections to gain the support of the various entities that would be involved in permitting and other related aspects. The list goes on and on, so please join our mailing list (1 message per month at most) and keep an eye out for specific needs as they arise.
If you would like to meet up with Blossom Van Kinkle, the founder of Power Art Corvallis, to chat about how you can help with our mission, please make a note of it in the contact form. You will receive no more than 1 message per month and we will not share your contact information with anyone without your permission.
